Cocounut Oil is extracted from the kernel of the seed of the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera), which has been used as a food source throughout the tropical world for thousands of years. Studies carried out on native diets high in coconut consumption show that these populations are generally in good health and do not suffer from many of the modern diseases of the western world.
Growing Location
The Asian & Pacific Community is the largest grower of the coconut. It's eighteen members produce around 85% of the annual coconut oil sold commercially and have published it's Standards for Virgin Coconut Oil..
Product Uses
Coconut oil is widely used in cooking, particularly frying, and as a flavouring for many South Asian Curries. Relative to other oils it creates minimal harmful byproducts when heated.
Biodiesel is a further use of this oil with the Phillipines, Vanuatu, Samoa and many other tropical island countries using the product as an alternative fuel source to run cars, buses and generators.
