Corn (Zea mays L.) - or Maize as it is widely known - is a member of the grass family. It is one of the world's most widely used food staples. Synonymous with the United States, Maize has become one of our most recognised foods in both raw form and it's by-products.
Growing Location
The United States still accounts for in excess of forty percent of the annual worldwide Maize production, with over fifty percent of this yield produced in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois and Nebraska. Other major corn producing countries include Brazil, Mexico, China and the EU countries.
Multifry's Maize Oil is sourced almost exclusively within the EU.
Product Uses
The largest single use of Maize Oil is in bottled form for consumer use closely followed by margarine and fast food operations.
Maize oil has an excellent frying quality with a resistance to smoking and discolouration, has a pleasant taste and
resists holding off-flavours. Starches and sweetners for the food industry are also produced from the starch portion of the
corn as is Ethanol, which is used as a fuel for high performance internal combustion engines.
